One of the most crucial parts of ensuring that a stepparent adoption can proceed successfully is obtaining consent from the other biological parent or a termination of their parental rights. Grounds for termination can include abandonment, where the other parent has not had contact with, nor made any effort to reach out to the child, for one year or more.

If you are biological mother, we can refer you to a counselor who can help ensure that you are emotionally capable and ready to proceed with the adoption. If you are an individual or couple seeking to adopt a child, we will also help arrange counseling to address any emotional issues that arise.
As your attorney, we will be there every step of the way. We coordinate meetings with the biological mother and adoptive parents and obtain consent for the adoption. We will file all required paperwork and reports required by court and make court appearances on behalf of our clients.
