CPS intervenes when a child is in a dangerous home environment. Reasons for removal can include allegations of neglect, abuse or child endangerment. CPS will conduct an investigation, and the child may be placed in temporary foster care or a shelter pending the outcome. In some situations, CPS may petition that the child should be taken from the home permanently or be made a ward of the court.
If your child has been removed from your home, we can help. Our attorneys Nancy Stegall and Zeppy Attashian represent parents in juvenile dependency proceedings who want to get their children back. Attorney Attashian, in addition to her juvenile dependency work with the firm, is a volunteer with CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates of Fresno and Madera Counties. From her broad base of experience in this area of family law, she understands the challenges that families face from all sides and brings this valuable perspective to every client she represents.
To get their child back, parents must prove to the court that they are ready to provide a safe environment for the child. They may need to demonstrate efforts through participating in parenting classes, counseling, alcohol or drug treatment and other special programs. We are experienced handling juvenile dependency hearings, and we seek the best outcome for each client.
If you are a family member of a child who is going through juvenile dependency proceedings and you wish to become that child's guardian, we are ready to help you. Our office represents aunts, uncles, grandparents, adult siblings and other family members who are seeking to become foster parents pending the outcome of the dependency hearing. If the child has become a ward of the court, we can help you obtain a conservatorship or guardianship of that child.
